WHO WE ARE
We are the CBU Long Knights Robotics Team. Founded in the Fall of 2022, the team has quickly flourished at California Baptist University in sunny Riverside, CA. Mr. Titus Rehard, a Computer Science major, spearheaded the creation of the team and has witnessed the immense growth in both membership and competitiveness over his four years as the club’s president. For more information on team history, check out our Team History page. CBU Robotics competes in the VEX U Robotics Competition where each season presents hundreds of teams with the challenge of building two robots to compete in a unique game. During months of participating in local competitions and collecting awards along the way, each team strives to qualify for the World Championship, the pinnacle of the VEX U competition.

The 2025-2026 season has witnessed a phenomenal performance from the team. Having participated in six competitions, one of which was at Purdue University in Indiana, CBU Robotics has qualified for the World Championship multiple times and has claimed several awards as well. The current team officially consists of fifty members, about thirty of whom attend regularly. The CBU Long Knights are excited to compete at the 2025-2026 World Championship in late April 2026 and are looking forward to the performance they plan to deliver. DIVISIONS
Mechanical Division
The Mechanical Division focuses on design and construction of the robots, which includes brainstorming, CADing, manufacturing, and assembling. This division collaborates with Electrical and Software to ensure robot design aligns with team strategy and that division efforts unite to forge success.
Software Division
The Software Division ensures proper robot function by reading sensors, controlling motors, and calculating autonomous movement profiles. This division enables the robot to see and adapt to its surroundings in real time and move all the subsystems in a smooth and coordinated manner. Software closely collaborates with Mechanical and Electrical to elevate the robot to its fullest capacity.
Electrical Division
The Electrical Division focuses on the conception, prototyping, creation, and integration of all custom electronics and sensors. In order to have a complete design process, this division develops electronic hardware and systems with robustness and fault tolerance. Electrical closely collaborates with Mechanical and Software to provide valuable sensor feedback.
Media & Business Division
The Media Division unites graphic design and thorough documentation to create the Engineering Notebook, which is crucial for team success. This division also strives to build a professional public-facing social media presence for the team, manage the team’s website, collect photo and video documentation, and handle all graphics-related projects.
The Business Division handles professional communication with outside sponsors, industry experts, and event partners, using business, logistics, and finance skills. This division also organizes outreach events to serve the community and engage with potential future team members.

WHAT IS VEXU?
VEX Robotics is an international robotics competition for a wide range of ages. CBU competes in the VEX U division, the university level of VEX competitions. More than 350 teams participate every year, beginning with regional competitions which culminate with the World Championship. Although the game changes annually, the main principles remain the same–each VEX U team builds two robots to compete in a sports-like event (learn more about this year’s game, Push Back, here). Facing another team, strategy is imperative during both the competition and the months prior throughout the engineering design process. VEX Robotics was launched in 2004, and CBU Robotics is embarking on their fourth competitive season having achieved multiple awards, including mechanical recognition at the 2024-2025 World Championship.
